New Patient Story

Sharing my story about depression and the ongoing journey of managing my mental health is deeply personal to me. Until you've experienced depression firsthand, it's difficult to truly grasp its weight and impact.
I often find myself reflecting on the roots of my struggles. Did they begin during my childhood? It's possible. Losing my father at a young age and my mother's decision to entrust me to my aunt while she sought work in a different country undoubtedly left lasting emotional scars. Perhaps the seeds of depression were sown during those formative years.
Or maybe the weight of depression settled in during my twenties, a time marked by heartbreak and tumultuous relationships. The accumulation of break-ups and disappointments took its toll, leaving me vulnerable and questioning my self-worth.
Then came the immense challenges of motherhood. Postpartum depression, sleep deprivation, and the constant demands of caring for my children left little room for self-care. Hormonal shifts after childbirth further complicated matters. The overwhelming responsibility of being a parent and the physical changes my body underwent certainly played a role in my mental health struggles.
And just when I thought I had reached my breaking point, fate dealt another blow. I experienced the sudden loss of my mother, who was also my aunt. The shock and grief were overwhelming. Balancing the demands of work during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic added an extra layer of complexity. I felt torn between my responsibilities, feeling guilty for not being with my loved ones during such a challenging time.
Finally, I reached a moment of utter exhaustion. I had given everything I had, and it felt like there was nothing left. Depression had taken its toll on my spirit, leaving me drained and despondent.
It's crucial to understand that depression is a deeply complex condition, and its origins can be multifaceted. Each person's journey is unique, shaped by a combination of circumstances and experiences. It's important to acknowledge the validity of these experiences and seek the support we need to heal.
