New Patient Story

I have battled my weight since I was 12 years old. There was a time I got up to close to 400 pounds, I was depressed, in pain, continuously feeling sorry for myself and just not wanting to deal with life. Then one day a friend of mine asked me to go to England with him. I told him there was no way I could go, I said I was too large and would just need to wait until I lost weight. He then told me, IF YOU JUST KEEP WAITING UNTIL THE PERFECT TIME, YOU ARE GOING TO LET LIFE PASS YOU BY. I let that sink in. So, I got up my courage and went with him, then to Scotland, then to Iceland, then to Italy then to all around the U.S. I had to embrace myself no matter WHAT my weight was, no matter what I felt like. I was letting life pass me by and I wanted to live life to the fullest. I then got a handle on my weight, so far I've lost 140 pounds, I still have about 60 more pounds to go but I am working on me. Taking meds for the depression, walking and hiking (which I NEVER thought I would do) Going to exercise classes, water aerobics, going to therapy, got a little adorable dog and helps me walk more and give me a lot of comfort, etc. I feel like I've gotten a whole new lease on life, as well as still traveling and enjoying my life and my friends. It feels like a WHOLE new me. I have even been speaking on conferences and library groups. It's a whole new me and I'm not letting anything pass me by.
