Running on Faith and Fumes
- Location: Beaverton,
It was 1:00 am when I got the call from my doctor that there was a match for a kidney for me. I was too nervous to talk or even think about what was in store for me. We got dressed and got in the car to find out we were out of gas. We went by faith and flumes to find a gas station open. We found one and made it to the hospital not too late. Once there everything happened so quickly. Blood work, IV's etc. On the gurney they put a pickle bucket holding the kidney between my legs and off we were to the operating room. Once I woke up they explained that it wasn't a perfect match and it wasn't working yet. Two weeks later the doctors came in on a Sunday and explained they were going to do a biopsy on Monday to see if it was time to remove it. In my mind I'm thinking they can't take my kidney. Well that afternoon after many prayers it started working. Urine was never so beautiful. That was 44 years, 4 kids, and 6 grandkids ago. My favorite quote is "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends". I'm forever grateful.
