As of July 1, 2024, Sedgwick will no longer be supporting your worker's
compensation claims. CorVel will be our new partner. Please take a moment
to review the questions and answers below to help you understand the impacts
of this change and provide you with necessary information.
Work-related Incidents-Caregivers
What is the change and when will it happen?
As of July 1, 2024, CorVel will be our new third-party administrator for
work-related incidents.
What will happen to my current, open workers’ compensation claim(s)
with Sedgwick after July 1, 2024?
Your open claim will be transferred to CorVel. CorVel will have all your
claim information and history available to view to make the transition
as seamless as possible. Your claim will be assigned a new CorVel claim
number, and you will receive information regarding who your new adjuster will be.
Will there be an interruption to my workers’ compensation time loss payments?
There will not be an interruption to your time loss payments. Sedgwick
will issue an advanced payment prior to claim transfer to CorVel that
will cover through the transition period. Advanced payment is calculate
based on current work status from your medical provider. CorVel will then
resume time loss payments on all claims with current time loss authorization.
I have signed up for direct deposit through Sedgwick. Will my payments
continue, or do I need to re-enroll?
You will need to re-enroll in direct deposit with CorVel. Signup instructions
will be provided with the CorVel transition letter.
How do I turn in my medical documentation?
Medical documentation can be provided directly to CorVel after July 1,
2024. You will receive contact information for CorVel and your new adjuster.
Please continue to provide any work status information to your core leader, as well.
Will my medication refills continue?
Yes, you will receive a pharmacy card from CorVel for you to present to
the pharmacy at your next refill that will provide CorVel’s pharmacy/billing
information.

Will I have to change medical providers?
No, you may continue with your current medical provider, assuming they
are part of the MCO/MPN for your specific state. If a change of provider
is necessary, CorVel will inform you and provide the necessary information
for locating a new provider.
Will my medical bill payments continue to be paid during the transition?
Yes, medical bill payments will be made by Sedgwick through a cut-off date.
CorVel will pick up billing payments after that.
Will my medical care and physical therapy appointments continue at the
same facilities?
Yes, your appointments should continue at the same facilities. If a change
of provider is necessary due to enrollment in the appropriate MCO/MPN,
CorVel will inform you and provide the necessary information for locating
a new provider.
I turned in my mileage and I’m waiting for a mileage reimbursement
payment. Will this be delayed or who will the reimbursement come from?
Sedgwick should issue any mileage reimbursement payments prior to July
1, 2024. However, if you have not received your mileage payment after
the transfer, please reach out to your CorVel adjuster for assistance.
How do I file a workers’ compensation claim with CorVel?
After July 1, 2024, there will be a similar process to file a workers’
compensation claim with CorVel. Detailed instructions will be forthcoming.
Will I continue to have access to MySedgwick and view my claim information?
Beginning July 1st, 2024, you will no longer have access to your Workers’ Compensation
claim via MySedgwick. You will, however, continue to have access for any
personal leaves you may have open with Sedgwick as they will continue
to administer those leaves. This change only impacts workers’ compensation claim.
How will I view my claim information once the transition occurs?
You will be able to view your claim information with CorVel in CareMC once
the transition occurs. Detailed instructions will be provided prior to
transfer on how to access and view your claims.
I currently work with a Sedgwick telephonic/field case nurse, will I continue
to work with them?
CorVel will work with Sedgwick regarding all claims with active nurse case
management and will determine on a case-by-case basis regarding continuing
with a Sedgwick telephonic or field case nurse.
Will there be any changes to my upcoming doctor’s appointments/IME
appointments?
There should not be any changes to upcoming doctor’s or IME appointments.
Please keep and attend all scheduled appointments during the transition.
If I need to reopen a claim that was with Sedgwick, what will the process
be moving forward?
All claims, open and closed, will be transferred to CorVel on July 1, 2024.
If you wish to reopen a claim, you will contact CorVel to begin the reopening
process. You and/or your physician will also need to fill out any state
required forms to reopen a claim.
My claim is no longer active, but I have a future medical award. Will all
of my claim history be transferred to Corvel?
Yes, all of your claim history and claim documents will be transferred
to CorVel.
Will there be a general telephone for work-related incidents questions
if I don’t have the contact information for the adjuster handling
my Caregiver’s claim?
If you do not have the contact information for the adjuster handling your
caregiver’s claim, please contact your
Workers Compensation Consultant for assistance.
Will I continue to be able to file a claim on behalf of a caregiver who
is unable to?
As a core leader, you will continue be able to submit a claim on behalf
of your caregiver.
Will I still need to fill out an accident investigation report (AIR) for
each claim?
Yes, the AIR is an OSHA required document that is necessary on every incident reported.
Will there be any changes to the existing workers’ compensation processes
or workflow?
Our goal is to make this transition as seamless as possible and improve
the process.
Do my internal Providence contacts change with the transition to CorVel?
Your dedicated Providence workers’ compensation consultant will stay the same.
Will I receive updates on my caregiver even if the caregiver has been off
for an extended period?
Yes, you will continue to receive periodic updates for any direct report
regardless of claim duration.
Will I need to continue to provide job descriptions for each of my injured
caregivers?
Yes, providing a copy of the most current job description is the responsibility
of the core leader.
Do I need to talk with the adjuster, when I have already completed the
Accident Investigation Review (AIR) form?
Yes, the AIR is an OSHA required document and separate from the investigation
of the Workers’ compensation claim. The adjuster may ask you questions
that are not part of the AIR therefore it is crucial that you communicate
with the adjuster.
Does my caregiver have to re-submit their claim with CorVel?
No, if your caregiver has an open claim with Sedgwick, all that information
will be electronically transferred to CorVel. This process should be as
seamless as possible for your caregiver.
If I have a caregiver that sustains a new injury, how will they report
the claim to CorVel?
Caregivers will report claims to CorVel in a similar manner to how they
report to Sedgwick. Detailed instructions will be available prior to the
transition.
What if a caregiver needs to file their own medical leave? Is it done through
Sedgwick or Corvel?
Sedgwick will continue to administer all other medical and personal leaves.
This change only impacts the workers’ compensation claim process.
Is there anything I should do to prepare my team for this change?
Stay informed by reading any articles in Core Leader News and engage with
your workers’ compensation consultant as needed.
Will CorVel code timecards, or will they provide timecard coding information?
Timecard coding is the responsibility of each core leader or timekeeper
when one is available. CorVel will not have the capability to code timecard
but will provide timecard coding instructions.
Will CorVel have access to Kronos?
CorVel will have View Access only.
Who can I send escalations to if my caregiver complains of issues with
their claim?
Your first point of contact should always be your Providence workers’
compensation consultant. They can help troubleshoot and course correct
anything regarding the claim. They will engage the CorVel leadership,
as needed.
Will Sedgwick still track Workers Compensation LOAs and show up on my report
of caregivers out on leave?
Yes, Sedgwick will continue to report any caregivers’ out on a leave
associated with a worker's compensation claim.
